French New Wave icon Francois Truffaut spent much of his career – both as a film critic and filmmaker – preoccupied with the work of Alfred Hitchcock. His seminal book-length interview ‘Hitchcock/Truffaut’ has recently been adapted into a documentary by Kent Jones, released in the UK this week.
Here, from his own Mississippi Mermaid, is one of Truffaut’s many homages to the Master of Suspense. Inspired by the James Stewart nightmare sequence in Vertigo, Jean-Paul Belmondo undergoes his own fever dream brought on by amour fou.
Hitchcock/Truffaut is released 4 March.
